First and foremost, I passionately believe that employees matter as human beings. The employee is always a Person first. A defining realization for me, looking back, happened when I was around 10 years of age. We went across the border from McAllen, Texas, to Reynosa, Tamaulipas, as we occasionally did. I remember seeing a boy my age selling Chiclets on the street. Others were offering to shine shoes. It was my crystalizing moment in understanding that it was a real Person working, behind the product or service being sold--someone just like me.

I have built my career upon this concept of respect, empathy, and the desire to understand people in their workplaces. Whether I am engaging a farmworker, a pharmacist, counter server, teacher, engineer, or business owner, I have an eye for recognizing, with gratitude and respect, the importance and impact of that Person in their work. The older and more experienced I have become, the more this concept has matured.

Secondly, everything that a business accomplishes is contingent upon its employees. We can have the greatest business model, growth objectives, or innovative technology, but without excellence in our team to make it happen, the business will run anemically, and can even be brought down. Our people are the make-or-break of everything we do.

For me to be effective in my work, I must have the skillset to effectively support and care for people. A life-changing season happened to me in the decade I spent as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. I not only worked in a variety of critical care units in hospitals, such as Trauma ER and Med-Surg ICU, but also in rehab centers, subacute facilities, and nursing homes. There I did not just observe the challenges inherent to both employees and patients in a spectrum of extremely challenging (often life or death) situations, but immersed myself in the goal of being “comprehensively present.” I learned that if I wanted to effectively engage a person and provide solutions, I had to first listen and seek to understand that patient or coworker--the situation-at-hand as well as the bigger picture.

I left the medical field to more comprehensively engage and support people. And after nearly 20 years of dedicated Employee Support and Mental Wellbeing experience, I know more than ever that this is the perfect avenue in which to do so. Work is the great equalizer. It is our common experience. And more than that, it is so intertwined with how we see ourselves. It is familiar as well as highly important to our futures and families, for al spectrum of reasons. But when we are experiencing a tough situation or challenging season, our work suffers, affecting us as well as our employers and coworkers. However, in the middle of it all, amazing things can be learned and experienced. That's where I live, where I want to be, and where StrongerWork serves our clients every day.

Regarding life above and beyond the workplace, I have been married for nearly 30 years, and have three grown daughters. Originally from South Texas, I have lived in several states over the years, and am happy to have called Phoenix home since 2005. I enjoy sharing life with my family, kayaking and hiking, reading, movies, and traveling when and where I can. I have been a die-hard fan of the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Astros since I was a kid—which, believe it or not, is a awesome “relationship-builder" with my Phoenix client employees! I am so thankful to live the life I do, and I go to work to help others feel the same about theirs.

‍As a culmination of 20 years in the innovative realm of Employee Care & Support, I founded StrongerWork LLC in early 2022. StrongerWork is built to be a game-changer in this post-ovid era of the American workplace: an incredibly effective employee-centered service. It is created and utilized to support, guide, encourage, challenge, and care for client employees.
